Bill was born in Gayndah, one of five children, to small farmer and bee keeping parents. He sought to enlist in the RAAF, but served in the AIF 1941 – 1946. Post war he trained as a carpenter and spent several years travelling and contracting in outback Queensland and the Northern Territory. He settled in Katherine, working for the Commonwealth Department of Works as a carpenter, and later a Building Supervisor. He married Joan in 1962 and they had three children. Retiring in 1985 to Esk and then in 1995 to Buderim on account of health, he joined QAM in 1996. Always interested in aircraft, Bill had travelled in many types in the course of work, from light aircraft to the Airbus, and enjoyed a flight in a Tiger Moth for his 80th. birthday. He passed away at home as he wished.
