SQUADRON LEADER NEVILLE COLIN WALLIS MBE
1930 - 2006

Nev was born in Toowoomba in 1930, the eldest of 5 children. He left high school in 1944 for an apprenticeship as a cabinet maker and joiner. In 1950 he joined the RAAF, trained as a radio serviceman and was posted to 3AD Amberley on Lincolns. Subsequently he served at Woomera as a Doppler Radar Operator. At Melbourne and Ballarat he qualified as a Radio Technician and as a Signaller. In 1955 promoted sergeant and posted to 10 Squadron on Lincolns. He met Jan and married in 1957. Commissioned in 1958 posted Recruiting Officer, North Queensland. Posted as Adjutant No 38 Sqdn (Dakotas), then back to 10 Sqdn. on Neptunes. In 1968, as Flight Lieutenant, Commanding Officer, RAAF Element, Headquarters First Australian Task Force, Vietnam. Subsequently Chief Instructor, Combat Survival Training, Amberley. Invested with the MBE by the Queen on the Britannia in the Brisbane River. After further postings he moved to Pearce as Intelligence Officer with No.3. Telecommunications Unit and retired in 1976 as Senior Intelligence Officer with the rank of Squadron Leader. The family moved to Cairns and operated a catamaran hire business, and then cabinet making. Nev and Jan retired to the Sunshine Coast in 2000 and he joined QAM in 2005. He built replica propelIors for two aircraft and began production of new display cabinets. He passed away on site and on duty on Open Cockpit Weekend 2.7.06.
