1 July 1929 - 23 June 2011
Foster was the youngest of eight children born to Eliza and Daniel Foster
at Torwood in Brisbane.
He was educated at Rainworth State School and was apprenticed as a carpenter
in Brisbane, later moving to Victoria and working in maintenance at
Yallourn Power Station. Ed joined the RAAF after the war at Sale and
in that time learned to fly.
He moved to Canada and joined the Canadian Air Force, and on completion
of his service he returned to his trade as a carpenter. He spent 23
years in Canada and met and married Maxine in 1974. He also built a
Minicab light aircraft and the couple enjoyed much flying in this. They
holidayed in Australia and decided to settle, first in Brisbane and
then in Caloundra. He enjoyed bowling, and became a member of the museum.
Ed undertook the building of the Wicko replica from original plans and
donated it to the museum, where it is an enduring monument to his craftsmanship
and his friendship.
