Maurie was trained as an electrician and worked for the NSW Government Railways for 45 years before retiring in 2000.
In retirement, he and wife Bernadette moved to Moffat Beach, where they purchased a caravan and enjoyed extensive travel throughout Queensland with their pet parrot.
Maurie joined the Volunteer Coast Guard at Caloundra in 2002 where he successfully organized and ran two classic boat regattas before leaving to pursue other interests.
In February 2011 he joined Queensland Air Museum and while learning about aircraft on the internet he participated in restoration work. He enjoyed the friendship of other members and was very proud of the aircraft he had worked on such as the Airtruk.
Maurie loved most of all his Model Trains and 1974 Alfa Romeo which gave him great pleasure.
Latterly, ill health precluded his participation in the weekly work parties.
